Murals by Karen Deaton

Scene depicting happy hour patrons in anachronistic garb: patrons and a serving wench in Colonial-style clothing and a bagpiper in clan Tartan and tam, at Gecko’s (of yore) enjoying pickled eggs, bread, and modern day spirits — Jagermeister, Ketel One and flavored vodkas serving staff unwinds with shots of Crown Royal after a busy shift at Gecko’s; tableau of six buxom women invarious states of Renaissance-style dress and undress: two in gowns, one in a towel, one in a corset and garters, and two in the buff, discreetly posed with only derrieres (one sporting a gecko tattoo) partially exposed patrons watching servers change for next shift; two male patron's in full Renaissance garb, including cuffed boots and plumed hats relax at a courtyard table; one hoists a pewter stein, while the other savors a pipe and props and props a leg on a case of Fat Tire; a musket, a small wooden keg of Sam Adams, a bottle of Bacardi and (surprise) a geckos add authenticity to the scene
on a Roman numeraled watch face, a Renaissance gentleman seranades his lady and a troupe of troubadours strum lutes (the center Troubadour is a self portrait of artist, Karen Deaton) while Leonardo Da Vinci as "Father Time" looks on at Mona Lisa and an Albuquerque Aardvark (rugby player), who are sharing a bottle of Patron tequila; the watch is completed with a faux trompe l'oeil gilded frame topped by a golden cherub Trompe l'oeil painting of a voluptuous woman with long blonde hair wearing a long, white, sleeveless gown with straps slipping off shoulders and exposing her cleavage. She is clutching wildflowers in both hands while stepping barefooted from a meadow to a tiled patio toward a doorway opening into Gecko's Bar. a lone aarvark is seated on a deserted mesa howling (yes, howling, in coyote style) at a giant smiling full moon looming on the horizon what appears to be an ornately carved and gilded floral design is actually a two dimensional trompe l'oeil illusion painted on a balcony above a doorway detail from mural depicting back view of stylized silhouettes of geckos, Stella (in a dress) and Art holding hands and entwining tails, heads craned toward each other, standing (on hind legs) on a beach looking out over the ocean on a starry night
the left side of this mural shows a sunny beach with palm trees and hotels, giving way to the Art Deco architecture and vintage automobiles of 50's-60's Miami, with sunlight waning on the cityscape; the right side of this mural features a cute stylized gecko couple holding hands and entwining tails, heads craned toward each other, standing (on hind legs) on a beach looking out over the ocean on a starry night with a crescent moon
